Halothane and propofol stimulate activation of protein kinase C (PKC) in the presence of physiologically relevant lipid bilayer vesicles in vitro. The mechanism of this stimulation was characterized by analyzing the effects of halothane and propofol on the activation of purified rat brain PKC by its three essential activators, phosphatidylserine, diacylglycerol, and Ca’+, each of which is known to interact with the regulatory domain. Clinically relevant concentrations of halothane (2.4 ~01%) and propofol(200 FM) increased the V,,, without affecting the K, for phosphorylation of the artificial substrate histone Hl by PKC, and increased the sensitivity of PKC to activation by phosphatidylserine, diacylglycerol, and Ca’+. Halothane reduced the EC,, values for phosphatidylserine from 18 2 2.5 to 11 -C 0.6 mol% (P < 0.05), for diacylglycerol from 1.6 + 0.3 to 0.87 ?Z 0.2 mol% (P < 0.05) and for free Cazt from 4.5 + 1.0 to

Comparison of neonatal and maternal outcomes after cesarean delivery with general anesthesia and spinal anesthesia
Aims and background: The choice of anesthesia for cesarean section depends on factors such as the cause of the operation, the degree of urgency of the operation and the patient’s desire. Following the choice of any of the methods either general anesthesia or spinal anesthesia for mother and baby will have consequences. The aim of this study was to compare maternal and neonatal outcomes afte...
متن کاملOutcomes of General and Spinal Anesthesia in Mothers with COVID-19 Undergoing Cesarean
Background and purpose: Coronaviruses are a type of virus that can cause death due to pneumonia and respiratory problems. Pregnant women are at higher risk for developing COVID-19 and the disease has posed challenges to anesthesia in these patients. The aim of this study was to evaluate the consequences of general anesthesia and spinal anesthesia in expectant mothers with COVID-19 candidates f...
متن کاملEvaluation of the Adequacy of General Anesthesia in Cesarean Section by Bispectral Index
Background: Awareness and recall, though not common, are the major hazards of general anesthesia, especially in Cesarean section (C/S) because of the absence of benzodiazepine and opioids for a significant time during anesthesia. In this study, the Bispectral Index (BIS), end-tidal isoflurane, and hemodynamic parameters were examined to evaluate the depth of the routine general anesthetic techn...

Introduction & Objective: Many surgical patients still experience moderate to severe pain after surgery despite efforts to administer new drugs and techniques. Postoperative analgesia clearly enhances patient’s satisfaction and facilitates earlier mobilization and rehabilitation. lidocaein has been introduced as part of post operative pain management and clinical studies revealed analgesic ac...
